Jason Millar

What are Jason's priorities?

North West Police Station

It is human nature to protect; to protect those we love and the things we covet.  The crime rate in Ward 2 is not decreasing.  According to the most recent statistics available on the EPS website, our crime rate is on track to meet and possibly surpass the total of reported crimes for 2012.  This is not acceptable.
The North West area of the city does not have an adequate law enforcement facility that citizens can depend on.  A police station serving the North West area of the city is of utmost importance.  Bringing a greater police presence to our streets will ultimately reduce our crime rate.  This will create communities where we can feel safe and secure.

Seniors

This is a generation of individuals who have created the fabric of the society we live in.  With their hands, they formed our roads, built our bridges and the foundations of the buildings we both work and live in.  Our city is what it is because they have dedicated their lives to building this great city.  It is time for this great City to give back.  The demographic in Ward 2 is composed of  24% senior citizens.  Ward 2 needs greater access for seniors to:

  • recreational facilities;
  • social gathering centers and;
  • specifically designed programming to meet their needs;

Parks, Playgrounds & Community Spaces

Parks and Playgrounds are at the heart of every community.  Parks increase community pride and strengthen social ties while promoting healthy, active living.  Playgrounds provide children the opportunity to play, play is critical in the development of muscle strength and coordination, language, and cognitive abilities I would like to see easier access for communities to get the support they need to develop and maintain these areas.  Every family in every community deserves to have a great place to take pride in.

Road Maintenance

Edmonton is one of the northernmost cities in Canada.  We live in a city that is subject to winter on average 5 months every year.  Why do we not already have a fail proof road maintenance plan in place?

It is my promise to push for reassessment of our current planning and execution.  Better infrastructure will ensure needs are met on a timely basis.  For example; snow removal and road repairs should be done immediately thus causing less long term damage.  By taking care of an issue before it becomes a problem, we reduce the overall burden on  the taxpayer.

Revitalization

Ward 2 is comprised of many mature Communities. While we have several new areas, infrastructure  in some of our mature neighborhoods is deteriorating beyond repair.  We are falling behind on maintaining our mature communities.  These communities are fading into the background and losing the vibrancy that once defined them.  Greater priority needs to be placed on revitalizing aging neighborhoods in order to continually attract new residents.  While we have several thriving industrial areas, we need to foster the entrepreneurial spirit in our small business centres.  We also need to consider increasing urban density in order to ensure the longevity of businesses in the surrounding area.
As stated by the great Ben Franklin, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".  The cost of revitalization will only continue to increase over time.  We have to start now before it becomes too costly of a project to manage.

Light Rail Trail (LRT) NW Expansion

Our city is expanding at an alarming rate.  Greater population means our roadway system is continually overcrowded and overburdened with the amount of traffic travelling on it each dayIt is my promise to push for the implementation of the LRT North West expansion.  All residents, regardless of what area of the city they live in, should have the option of a viable public transportation system.  A wide reaching public transportation system will assist in reducing our overall impact on the environment.

Which of his priorities are most important to you?

Parks, Playgrounds & Community Spaces
